Hello! I'm Madelyn, a registered dietitian with a passion for travel, food, & nature. While I've never been great at sharing my life online, I'm excited to step out of my comfort zone & embrace the positive side of socials!

I’m originally from Northern Virginia, where I grew up before moving for my undergraduate studies at Mississippi State University (HAIL STATE!).
I went into the nutrition major only knowing my love & appreciation of food, but having no idea how rare & precious that is. Nutrition is a trendy topic & with all the madness & misinformation online, I felt faced with the undeniable need advocate for the beauty of what food & our bodies do for us! This inspired my personal statement for applying to graduate schools, knowing I wanted to work with eating disorders at some point in my career.

I pursued my master's in nutrition through Appalachian State University, where I got to explore the Blue Ridge mountains, make wonderful connections, & realize how much I truly thrive in warm weather (bless vitamin D!). Fast forward to moving to Wilmington, NC where I essentially got my dream job - specializing in eating disorders! This experience deepened my commitment to promoting food freedom and health literacy, and I am currently working towards my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) credential.

This journey has brought me to Salty Roots Nutrition, where I aim to provide nutrition therapy virtually while in Puerto Rico! While I’m in the process of relocating, you can follow my adventures through Instagram @saltyrootsnutrition, where I'll share insights on nutrition education, sustainable living, intuitive eating, and soon farming alongside my beloved soul dog, Millie!
Aside from food, I enjoy tending to plants, expressing myself through watercolor & sketching, powerlifting, & striving for a zero-waste lifestyle.

Story Behind the Name
I chose Salty Roots Nutrition for the name of my practice to encompass my story, personality, & mission.
It is important for you to know how much I love puns, dad jokes, & any kind of play on words so,
naturally, there are multiple meanings.
Salty
-
Flavor! No matter how much I love food as it, we always have to add some flavor to the mix to really bring out different tastes with the bonus of adding more nourishment

-
Location! The sandy beaches & salty waters are my home as I started out my dietitian journey in Wilmington, NC & now moving to Puerto Rico.
Roots
-
Root vegetables! I will always advocate & highlight the importance of carbohydrates in daily intake. Plus, there are so many more root than the classic potato or carrot to try.

-
Focus! Nutrition is a preventative treatment & an important lifestyle factor to focus on in finding the root problem to health concerns.
